MOM to Biel & Alonzo
At the inception of this blog, Biel & Alonzo are teens. I'm a single Mom by virtue, being estranged to their Dad. What I mean by saying "by virtue" is that I single handedly take care of them hands on - from their basic needs, to their schooling, and to the other interests they have in their lives. Their Dad is still around for them, he is still the breadwinner, but he doesn't stay with us anymore at home. While I fulfil my duties as a Mom full time, I am in the process of shaking off the "separated woman" status towards my identity as a productive and useful citizen of the society without sacrificing my role as a Mom.
ARTIST
I will never forget what my Mom told me in her palanca letter to me back in 7th grade for our recollection or retreat. She told me, "You are an artist". Yes, I loved singing, dancing, acting and reading stories and poetry. I was a singer in our church choir. I took ballet and modern dance lessons. I would write my own stories without computers that time - in plain paper and pen and compiled in the good ol' yellow paper with a fastener.
They all seemed like just hobbies back then and at this point in my life, I find them to be what's in my heart. I find myself singing everyday, dancing when there's a chance, aching to act. I am pursuing the arts now as a career but being realistic, I don't think it can serve as my bread and butter. I just do it as a passion, to feed my soul and to keep me inspired.
ATHLETE
Back in college, I had a chance to be part of a theater production. However, rehearsals conflicted with volleyball practice that I had to give it up. I chose to be an athlete that time than an artist. I was a varsity volleyball player then. I took the sport seriously that I went all the way to trying out for the national team. I did not make it.
At present, I can still play volleyball but not competitively anymore. I like playing badminton. What I can really do now is bike long distance. While I do not have the time or the chance to do those anymore, I do some brisk walking or light jogging or zumba (which is a form of dance). I just really need to have some athletic activities still going on in my life.
CHILD OF GOD
I recently told Biel who God is. Yes, I know who He is. As our limited human mind and heart can only fathom what is above us, below us and everything around us, God is there - in the highest point, the lowest and the farthest. That may all seem like He is so far from us. As He covers what we are unable to grasp around us, He is the nearest to what keeps our lives going. He takes care of us.
I consider myself a child of that God because I believe I am way more valuable than all the things this world has.
